Your birth chart is essentially a picture of the sky at your moment of birth. Because your chart is based on the specific time and place of your birth, no two charts are exactly alike -- meaning that, in the entire history of humanity, you are absolutely unique!

Astrology is based on an ancient idea: “As above, so below.” In other words, the planets and stars above can tell us something about life here on Earth. So your birth chart is like your “road map” on the journey of life … but remember, you're the one who decides which road to go down, how fast to drive, and who gets to come along for the ride!

Virgo Sun

The Virgo symbol is the virgin … but that has nothing to do with the bedroom! In ancient times, a Virgin was a woman who was not the property of a man, and therefore had the legal right to just say “no.” In modern times, Virgos are known for having excellent taste, being focused, staying organized and getting the job done right.

1. Your Elements

Your Building Blocks

Before we get into the details, we're going to look at the broadest categories in your birth chart: the elements. The four elements -- Fire, Earth, Air, and Water -- are the fundamental building blocks of the universe. They're also the building blocks of your birth chart! Each zodiac sign is associated with one of the elements, and all of the signs of the same element share certain basic characteristics. For example, Fire signs -- Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius -- are typically enthusiastic, action-oriented, and driven.

Strong vs. weak elements: In this chapter, we reference the elements in your chart that are “strong” and which ones are “weak” -- this is determined by the number of planets you have in the signs of each element. For example, if you have several planets in Earth signs -- Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn -- then you are strong in Earth. If you have very few planets in Water signs -- Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces -- then you are weak in Water.

Typically, people are strong in one or two elements and weak in others. If you're aware of your elemental make-up, you can make the most of strong areas and watch out for problems in the weak areas. Remember, though, that the elements offer only a broad overview of your nature. As you read on, you'll learn how these characteristics are affected or even overshadowed by other things occurring in your birth chart.

Air is Strong

You have a great capacity to relate to, appreciate, and understand different people and points of view, and you tend to be quite liberal in your attitudes. You are primarily a thinking person who requires much intellectual and social stimulation, conversation and interaction. You comprehend abstract reasoning and concepts very quickly and like ideas, language and culture. You can't imagine being happy in a world without books, films, or interesting companions.

There is an androgynous quality to you, and you relate equally well to men and women, having both male and female characteristics in nearly equal measure yourself. You tend to see someone as a person first, rather than identifying them solely with their gender.

Friendship is very important to your sense of well-being. You thrive on camaraderie, teamwork, social participation and sharing. However, you are also quite objective about them and there is often a touch of impersonality or detachment to your relations with others.

Your mind is your real gift: thinking clearly, logically and creatively, planning and organizing efficiently, and communicating intelligently. However, you tend to live in your head -- reading about, talking about, and observing life without becoming completely immersed in it. Avoid becoming a dabbler. You need to develop constancy, stability and depth.

Air is Strong and Sun is in an Earth Sign

You do have a conservative, down-to-earth, and practical focus in life. So, while you will entertain numerous theories and listen to many people's points of view, you always come back to what is real, solid, and proven in your own experience.

2. Your Inner Self

The Sun

Now that you understand the balance of elements in your birth chart, let's turn to the planets, starting with the most important one of all: the Sun. When someone asks, “What’s your sign?” they’re asking about your Sun sign. As you’ll see, there’s much more to Astrology than just your Sun sign -- it’s only one piece of the cosmic puzzle. But as the planet around which everything else revolves, the Sun is considered the most significant feature of your birth chart.

For simplicity’s sake, each of the astrological features of your birth chart are called planets, even things like the Sun and Moon. Each of the planets represents a different facet of who you are; the Sun, for instance, represents your core self. The Sun’s sign and house show how you “shine your light” -- your vitality, creativity, and even your work. When you express the qualities of your Sun sign in a positive way, you “light up” and feel confident, happy, and energized.

Ascendant in Libra and Sun in Virgo

Even though you have a tactful and generally pleasing way of expressing yourself, you actually have high standards and can be quite a perfectionist (as discussed below). Inside you are more skeptical and judgmental than you appear.

Sun in Virgo

☉ ♍

At heart you are modest and humble, and you rarely strive to be in the limelight or in a position of power. You have a sharp analytical mind, a keen eye for detail, and you prefer to observe, dissect and study life from a distance. Conscientious and conservative, you can be relied upon to be careful, efficient and thorough in your work and you take pride in doing a job well. What you may lack in self-confidence you often make up for in skill -- developing expertise, technical knowledge, and competency in some specialized area. You are adept at using your hands to create or fix things, and meticulous attention to detail and careful craftsmanship are your forte. Some would say you are a little TOO meticulous, for you can be extremely critical and petty if everything is not done exactly as you think it should be, and you worry about things that other people consider trivial and unimportant. You like to organize, categorize, and arrange everything into a logical system, and you are often distinctly uncomfortable when something does not fit into a neat category. Disorganization vexes you. You probably wish that you were not such a perfectionist, for besides being a stickler for details, you can be mercilessly self-critical as well. Whether in your environment or in yourself, you tend to focus on the flaws, with a desire to improve, refine and perfect. You are strictly factual, truthful, and scrupulously honest in your self-estimation, and you often do not give yourself enough praise or credit.

You are also highly discriminating and may be especially particular about your diet, hygiene and health habits. You have high aesthetic standards and refined sensitivities, and will be bothered by elements in your surroundings (such as disorder, cigarette smoke, etc.) that others overlook. Your tastes are simple, understated, but refined. Coarseness, bluntness and vulgarity really offend you. You can be difficult to live with sometimes because of your fastidiousness, your sensitivity and your idiosyncrasies about food and cleanliness.

Though you seem rather cool and self-contained, you have a very helpful nature and you enjoy serving others. You are content to be in a supportive, assisting role rather than in the lead. You are quietly devoted to the ones you care for.

You are careful and cautious in your approach to life, realistic, practical, and disinclined to gamble. You analyze before you act. You are too serious sometimes. Allowing yourself to play and to make mistakes would be HEALTHY for you!

Sun in the 11th House

☉ Ⅺ

Leading groups and classes, and being involved in community efforts, social activities, events or movements are areas where you really shine and express your creativity. An awareness of politics or the larger social impact of individual actions is natural to you.

3. Your Outer Self

Your Ascendant

While the Sun symbolizes your essential self, the Rising sign -- also called the Ascendant -- represents the part of yourself that the rest of the world sees. Your Rising sign describes your outer personality, appearance, and general outlook on life. Think of it as the mask you wear when you head out into the world. Compared to the Sun in the previous chapter, your Rising sign may match up well with your Sun sign, meaning that people easily see the “real you,” or may oppose it, meaning that your mask hides some of your true identity from others.

Libra Rising

♎ 􏿴

You are a natural diplomat: reasonable, tolerant, fair, always willing to listen to varying viewpoints and ready to see the other side of an issue. Even if you strongly disagree with someone, you will try to find points of similarity and agreement rather than emphasizing the differences. You often avoid taking an extreme or one-sided stance on anything. You have a strong desire for harmonious and pleasant relationships, and express a spirit of cooperation, compromise, friendship and fairness. You very much want to be liked and because of your need for approval and acceptance, you are easily influenced by others' opinions, especially when young. You so much want to please that often you will suppress your own intense or unpleasant feelings in order not to offend others. Sometimes your politeness is interpreted as being phony or wishy-washy.

Your need to create harmony extends to your physical environment and personal appearance as well. You appreciate beauty and have a natural sense of balance, symmetry and proportion. You do everything in good taste, with a sense of style and art. From your home furnishings to your choice of clothing, everything must be aesthetically appealing, not simply functional or utilitarian.

You also feel that relationships are an art, one that especially interests you and one that you are usually quite skilled at, for you possess tact and acute awareness of other people. Marriage is very significant to you and finding the right person to share your life with is extremely important. Being part of a close couple seems natural to you -- you are not an independent loner. Having a partner increases your self-confidence. You do have a tendency, however, to become overly dependent on your partner and to perhaps fail to develop a clearly defined identity outside of the relationship. Finding the balance between being yourself and blending and uniting with another is a challenge for you.

Others see you as an agreeable, smooth, harmonious and "nice" person. Though there may be much more to you, this is the sort of face you show to the world. You possess personal charm and an understated, non-combative manner. Your motto could be "you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar," for you usually take a friendly, cooperative approach rather than a strong, forceful, I'm-going-to-conquer-the-world attitude.

Pluto Conjunct Ascendant

⯓ ☌ 􏿴

You are extremely willful, but often achieve your desires in a quiet, secretive, or manipulative way. You may be intensely charismatic and wield considerable influence over others, or you may be attracted to such powerful, fascinating personalities. You tend to go to extremes in whatever you do, to be compulsive, and are driven by a sense of mission or destiny. You don't take anything at face value and are always digging beneath the surface for the deeper meaning or real motivations of others.

Neptune Sextile Ascendant

♆ ⚹ 􏿴

You tend to blend in with and take on the characteristics of the people in your surroundings, and may thus not make a powerful individual statement of your own. You may project an aura of glamour or "make-believe", and enjoy trying on different personalities at different times.

4. Your Emotions

The Moon

Along with your Sun and Rising signs, the Moon -- the planet closest to Earth -- is also a very significant part of your birth chart. The mysterious and ever-changing Moon rules your feminine side: your emotions, your needs, and your intuition. The Moon's position and aspects help you understand what you need from others and what makes you feel safe, supported, and secure.

While the Sun represents your conscious self -- who you think you are -- the Moon works on a subconscious level. You may not be as aware of the Moon's influence in your life because it's a part of you that operates automatically. When you're on “auto-pilot,” you are most likely acting out the qualities of your Moon.

Moon in Scorpio

☽ ♏

Secretive and inclined to brooding silences, it is difficult for others to really know your inner core, for you trust and open yourself to very few. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable and to relinquish control in relationships is not easy for you.

You have intense, passionate loves and hates and are a jealously loyal and protective friend -- or a fearsome foe. You have a nasty habit of holding on to past hurts, resentments and guilt -- and to keep such feelings to yourself. It is important for you to learn to forgive and let go, as well as to express your feelings openly and directly, rather than hiding or repressing them.

You are not content with superficial appearances and are always probing beneath the surface of things for hidden motives. You have a great deal of emotional depth.

Moon in the 2nd House

☽ Ⅱ

You are likely to be a great collector of things -- a real pack rat in fact -- for your belongings give you a sense of security and continuity with the past, which is important to you. Antiques or things with sentimental value from your past are especially dear to you.

You may also cling rather tightly to both money and possessions, keeping them "in the family" rather than sharing freely with those outside of your immediate circle.

Moon Conjunct Uranus

☽ ☌ ♅

You have an unusual sense of humor and enjoy acting a little bit crazy or outlandish sometimes. You crave excitement and emotional freedom and like to break the rules and take risks. Anything new or untried appeals to you and you have little patience with restrictive customs. You are attracted to unusual, creative, or offbeat people and nontraditional lifestyles.

5. Your Intellect

The Planet Mercury

From the feeling nature of the Moon we now turn to the realm of the mind, represented by the planet Mercury. Because Mercury travels closest to the Sun, it has a shorter and faster orbit than the other planets. For this reason, the ancients associated Mercury with the wing-footed messenger god by the same name. Mercury's position and aspects show you how your mind works -- how you think and learn, as well as how you communicate those thoughts to others.

Mercury in Libra

☿ ♎

One of your greatest assets is your ability to see both sides of an issue, and to negotiate and bring about compromise and reconciliation. Tactful, reasonable, and with considerable social finesse, you work well with people in business as well as in personal relationships. You are objective and somewhat detached from emotional bias, and make an excellent consultant, mediator or public relations person. You insist upon fairness and seek to bring harmony or at least peaceful coexistence between people, and your diplomacy is a benefit in any business or social situation. You also have fine aesthetic sensitivities and could work in an artistic or cultural environment.

Mercury in the 12th House

☿ Ⅻ

You don't speak up readily, even when you have a lot to say! Also, your mind tends to drift and you find it difficult to study very factual material that doesn't have much color or imaginative appeal. Your intuition and first impressions are likely to be quite accurate, however, and you tend to depend upon this faculty in making decisions.

Mercury Sextile Mars

☿ ⚹ ♂

You have a sharp tongue and ready wit, and you enjoy intellectual competition, problem solving and demanding intellectual work. In a debate, you know how to drive your point home. You also possess quick reflexes and dexterity and could be an excellent tennis or racquetball player. Any sport which involves a dynamic exchange between the players is a suitable arena for you.

Mercury Conjunct Saturn

☿ ☌ ♄

Your mind is serious and deep, and you will rarely offer an opinion on any matter until you have thoroughly considered and studied it. You have excellent powers of concentration and enjoy studying or thinking deeply in solitude. You have an aptitude for research or doing mental work that requires precise, organized thinking, attention to detail and a methodical approach. You are conservative and something of a skeptic, and may be narrow-minded and closed to new ideas, especially if there is no concrete proof or scientific verification of them. Socially, you are rather reserved, uncommunicative and uncomfortable with light, frivolous conversation.

Mercury aspects both Saturn and Uranus

You will notice that the description below contradicts some of the statements made in the previous paragraphs. Above your thinking is depicted as careful, conservative, methodical, and possibly narrow or rigid, while the following information characterizes your mind as quick and innovative. Both are true! You incorporate both ways of thinking -- the inspired, inventive AND the deductive, ordered. Here is a description of the more free-flowing aspect:

Mercury Sextile Uranus

☿ ⚹ ♅

Your intellectual interests tend toward the offbeat or unusual. Anything "alternative", innovative, experimental, creatively inspired or new is right up your alley. You may not have the patience to study these things in depth, but you have an instinctive grasp of them. The esoteric sciences like astrology, numerology and the like are subjects you could pick up quite easily.

6. How You Love

The Planet Venus

The next planet in the solar system is Venus, named for the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Venus reveals how you relate to others -- the kinds of people you are attracted to, the kinds of people who are attracted to you, and your unique way of experiencing love. Venus helps us realize what kinds of interpersonal relationships we need to feel happy and fulfilled. On a more basic level, Venus also describes what gives us pleasure and what we find desirable or valuable.

Venus in Libra

♀ ♎

You possess the gifts of tact, courtesy, consideration, and a strong desire to please and understand your love partner. Because you value harmony so much, you will compromise a great deal to avoid any discord or conflict. You do not like to dwell on controversial or emotionally difficult subjects, and often try to "smooth things over" or "sweep them under the rug".

In love, you want an intellectual peer, an equal and a friend. You are attracted to people who have a certain finesse, delicacy, and subtlety. You appreciate good manners and refinement and are not happy with a coarse, blunt type of person.

Venus in the 12th House

♀ Ⅻ

You often hide your affection, or find your feelings difficult to express or get across to the person you love. Being openly affectionate and trusting often doesn't seem safe to you. You may feel your love won't be appreciated or reciprocated. You may get involved in secret love affairs or fall in love with a person who is quite unavailable to you. Love and sacrifice often seem to go hand in hand for you -- having to give something up to be with the one you love, or having to relinquish some person or some aspect of an important love relationship.

Venus Conjunct Pluto

♀ ☌ ⯓

You have deep, compelling love feelings that seem irresistible and often irrational. Your love relationships are very passionate and intense, and you experience both agony and ecstasy in love. You are always changed in a deep, fundamental way by your love experiences, though this may come about through painful and difficult confrontations or separations. You are something of an emotional fanatic about things you care about.

Venus Sextile Neptune

♀ ⚹ ♆

You have a rich, colorful, dreamy imagination and a refined sense of beauty. Involvement in the arts or with artistic, sensitive, or spiritually inclined people is very satisfying to you. In your friendships and romantic relationships, you tend to be unselfish, giving, and forgiving. You might enjoy joining with others for charitable events or social service.

7. How You Live Life

The Planet Mars

We now move from the feminine symbol of Venus to the masculine symbol of Mars, which influences our motivations. Mars is the first planet beyond Earth in our solar system. It represents your activity level and drive -- the way you approach life. This can mean anything from how you behave at your job to what activities you pursue to how you go about your daily life.

Mars in Leo

♂ ♌

You are proud and ambitious, and you strive to excel, to stand out and be recognized for who and what you are. You have a very strong ego drive and like to be Number One. You find it difficult to take orders from others or to stay in the background, and you hate being wrong; you always insist that you are right!

You are forceful, strong, energetic, determined and highly competitive. You play hard, you play to win and you do not give up easily. In fact, you see life as a competitive sport or performance. You love admiration and applause, and you have a strong sense of personal honor and integrity. You tend to be very self-confident, even arrogant. Because of your belief in yourself, you are able to accomplish much, but if your confidence is ever undermined, you become self-conscious, defensive and rather belligerent.

Mars in the 10th House

♂ Ⅹ

You are likely to be known for your drive, energy, ambition and competitive spirit. A successful career based on your ability to take initiative, be a leader or excel in physical strength and prowess is likely. You most definitely want to be a winner and will work hard to achieve that.

Mars Trine Uranus

♂ △ ♅

You are dynamic, decisive and somewhat impulsive. You respond quickly and spontaneously to challenges, and you enjoy vigorous physical activities that require fast reflexes and a good sense of rhythm and timing. You have an abundance of energy and vitality, and a restless desire to see progress and change -you hate stagnation. You are individualistic and make a good leader, spearheading new projects and inspiring others to act.

8. Your Strengths

The Planet Jupiter and Your Midheaven

Next we meet Jupiter, king of the gods and the largest planet in our solar system. Jupiter represents luck, opportunity, and reward. Looking at Jupiter in your birth chart will help you realize the possibilities that are available to you and figure out what kind of work will benefit you the most.

Complementing Jupiter is another part of your birth chart, the Midheaven. The Midheaven is the highest point in your chart, representing your purpose in life: your career, fame, and public reputation. Your midheaven is a guiding light toward what will bring you ultimate fulfillment in life.

Jupiter in Libra

♃ ♎

Your strengths lie in your ability to cooperate, to be diplomatic and to know just what behavior is called for in whatever social situation you find yourself. You also possess a strong sense of fairness, the willingness to listen to opposing viewpoints and opinions, and the ability to be (or at least seem to be) impartial and moderate, rather than extreme and one-sided.

Jupiter in the 12th House

♃ Ⅻ

You are drawn to social work, the ministry, giving your time and energy to charitable organizations, or to serving and helping the disadvantaged in some way. Your generosity and unselfishness will bring you and others much good.

Moon Trine Midheaven

☽ △ 􏿷

Your career is apt to involve protecting, caring, nurturing or "mothering" in some aspect. Home, family relationships, cherishing the past, continuing a tradition are also featured. You're apt to be quite popular through your profession or business.

Venus Square Midheaven

♀ □ 􏿷

You tend to want to take the easy road to success, and unless other factors in your chart suggest a capacity for effort or a lot of energy, laziness could interfere with achieving whatever ambitions you have. You tend to gain your objectives through your personal charm and appeal. You also possess a fine aesthetic sense that could be a prominent factor in your career.

Uranus Trine Midheaven

♅ △ 􏿷

Innovation, discovery, originality, experimentation and opening up new channels of understanding are important aspects of your life's work. Your ambitions in life, as well as the way you achieve those goals, are unique or "alternative". Concerned with future trends and the new, you're apt to be ahead of your time in many respects.

Neptune Quincunx Midheaven

♆ ⚻ 􏿷

Your professional goals and long-range ambitions may be vague and difficult for you to define for quite a long time. Partly this is due to the fact that they are not very conventional, concrete or worldly. You're apt to have more of a spiritual vocation or calling. Healing, counseling, the ministry, music, art -- or some combination thereof -- may well be part of your role in life. On the other hand, you may simply be confused and seemingly not ambitious at all in the professional realm.

Pluto Square Midheaven

⯓ □ 􏿷

In some ways you may feel that you have little choice about your role in society. You're compelled either by unusual outer circumstances or by an inner drive, to bring things that may be dark, difficult or taboo, into public awareness. You delve into the hidden side of life, things which may have been purposefully concealed or repressed, and bring these things to light. You could come into direct conflict with the authorities or powers-that-be as a result. You're apt to have extraordinary ambitions, and could become overly zealous and fanatical also.

9. Your Challenges

The Planet Saturn and The North Node

Saturn has a lot to do with your life's work and ambitions. However, Saturn is considered a “heavy” influence, showing where you will be tested. It represents the lessons and challenges you have to tackle on your way to success.

Slow-moving Saturn teaches patience and endurance. It’s placement in your birth chart shows the limitations placed on you and the types of experiences you may go through in order to learn how to overcome these obstacles.

Saturn in Libra

♄ ♎

You take your personal relationships so seriously that they may seem more like work, constant effort, and compromise, rather than a free and enjoyable sharing. You may feel that relationships in general require more of you than they are worth, and you enter into any close relationship cautiously and conscientiously. You also fear entrapment in close relationships.

Saturn in the 12th House

♄ Ⅻ

You may have nebulous but ever-present guilts and fears that are difficult to pinpoint or eradicate. It's as if you don't trust Life itself, and are always seeking ways to defend yourself from its dangers and its unknowns. You must learn to overcome your ingrained habit of discouragement and anxiety, and to see the world more as a friendly place than as a treacherous one.

Jupiter Conjunct Saturn

♃ ☌ ♄

Your aspirations and dreams are always tempered by realism and practical considerations. You pursue your aims in a systematic, disciplined, and thorough manner, and you are willing to take your time, advancing slowly and steadily on your way to your goal.

Sometimes you underestimate what is possible, and hold yourself back unnecessarily due to a lack of faith or an overly cautious attitude.

Overcoming Your Challenges

When we're under stress, we instinctively slip into certain habits and patterns of behavior. In Astrology, this “survival mode” is represented by the South Node of the Moon. The South Node shows the path of least resistance that you're likely to take, because it’s what’s already comfortable to you. However, just because it’s the easiest path doesn’t make it the best. Instead, the North Node of the Moon shows you a healthier, more balanced method of dealing with difficult situations. Learning to cope with problems through your North Node rather than your South Node will help you put an end to negative patterns and grow as a person.

North Node in Cancer

☊ ♋

When under stress you are apt to close down the flow of your emotions, ignoring your needs and feelings in order to do what you perceive as your duty or simply what the practical realities of the situation require. This can lead to a certain rigidity and hardness. If overdone, self-control, self-discipline, or an exaggerated concern over what society, family or others expect of you makes life more a burden than an adventure.

Developing tenderness, caring, feeling and the feminine, nurturing aspects of yourself is an important step in your unfolding. You need to learn how to nourish and lovingly attend to both yourself and others. Letting yourself be taken care of sometimes is okay!

North Node in the 10th House

☊ Ⅹ

The arena you are most likely to wrestle with these issues is in your public life and career. All of these issues will impact your reputation and standing in your community or professional circle, as well as how you achieve your important life goals and aspirations.

Mars Conjunct North Node

♂ ☌ ☊

Be a warrior and cultivate a positive, victorious, active approach to life and to any problems you face. Act on your own behalf instead of stalling, waiting or hoping someone else will do it for you. Assert yourself openly and courageously and don't be afraid to make mistakes or fall down. Any new initiative is likely to have a few trial runs. Stir up a healthy fighting spirit, pick yourself up and go! Appreciate conflict and confrontation as a way to grow.

10. How You Fit In

The Planets Uranus, Pluto and Neptune

The outer planets -- Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto -- are so far away they can only be seen with a telescope. Since they move so slowly, they remain in the same sign for several years. For example, while Jupiter takes 12 years to circle around the Sun and therefore spends about a year in each sign, Pluto with its 240-year orbit can spend over 20 years in the same sign!

Because all the people in your age group will most likely have Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in the same signs, they are called “generational” planets. Instead of describing your personal life, they reveal influences that affect your entire generation.

However, the houses in your chart where the outer planets reside -- determined by your time of birth, rather than your year of birth -- show how you may go against the grain or be unusual among people of your age. In brief, Uranus represents your rebellious, unusual, innovative, and possibly unstable side; Neptune represents your imagination, dreams, and ideals; and Pluto shows your passion, depth, and intensity.

Your 7-Year Group: Uranus in Scorpio

♅ ♏

You are part of a 7 year group of people who break up all manner of taboos regarding death, sex, and any other personal, private, or difficult topics. Your age group is less modest about sex than other age groups and promiscuity is not uncommon. You love emotional intensity, and there are many extremists and fanatics in your age group.

Uranus in the 2nd House

♅ Ⅱ

You have a reckless, impulsive, or very unconventional attitude toward money, material things and ownership. Above all, you do not want to be possessed by your possessions. The obligations of owning things are likely to feel oppressive to you.

Also, you may make your money in a field that is unconventional, highly unstable, or very inventive and innovative. Your fortunes are likely to fluctuate widely throughout your life.

Your 12-Year Group: Pluto in Libra

⯓ ♎

You are part of a 12 year group of people who are deeply interested in personal relationships. Your age group has a deeply-rooted yearning to see people relating and communicating with each other effectively and harmoniously. There is little egotism and a willingness to hear the other person's side of the story and a readiness to compromise and arbitrate different points of view. In fact, the need for harmonious, peaceful relationships is so strong that there is a tendency to overlook real differences and to focus only on the similarities in an attempt to bring different parties into harmony with each other.

Interest in psychology and sociology is high in your age group. There is a tremendous heightening of awareness of social skills. Your age group will experiment with different marriage styles, family relationships, and even business relationships in an attempt to bring fair treatment and effective communication between people. Interest and appreciation for other cultures is also strong, and your age group will work hard to preserve and support the cultural heritage of all ethnic groups.

Your strong yearning for equitable and harmonious relationships is also reflected in major advancements in trade agreements, arms control, and international cooperation that are designed and implemented by your generation. These agreements and policies foster a much safer and more cooperative environment for all, although there is also a tendency for greedy individuals to take advantage of the conciliatory atmosphere and twist situations to their own ends.

In short, you are part of a generation of individuals who are deeply interested in other people; you are a humanistic and humanitarian group. You will struggle and experiment with personal relationships, and forge new models for how people can relate as friends, family members, and members of nations as well.

Pluto in the 1st House

Your 14-Year Group: Neptune in Sagittarius

♆ ♐

You are part of a 14 year group of people that are extremely idealistic and farsighted in their dreams. Your age group is very liberal and expansive in outlook, and consequently churches become much more flexible and more eclectic in their approach during your life time. Religions that do not adapt to the broad-minded attitude of your age group simply are unable to attract very much interest and involvement from you.

A great deal of metaphysical musing and speculation is evident in your age group, and there is a very strong interest in all manner of psychic phenomena, UFO's, prophecy, etc. This interest will open many new doors and insights, but will also often lead to a great deal of fantasizing and speculation that is taken more seriously than it should be.

♆ ⚹ ⯓

The entire generation to which you belong has tremendous opportunities for spiritual rebirth and awakening. This will not be forced upon you or precipitated by unavoidable events; rather, it comes from an inner yearning and a natural propensity to seek the depths.

This is just the beginning of your cosmic exploration!

Planets

The planets of our solar system -- including the Sun, Moon, and Pluto -- create a sort of map in the cosmos. When a person looks at their Astrology birth chart, they are looking at the exact locations of each planet at the moment of their birth -- in essence, a map of their life.

Each planet is connected to a deity, archetype, or idea that represents some part of our fundamental nature as humans. By understanding the meaning of each planet and the ways it can influence our lives, we have the opportunity to understand not only what drives us, but, ultimately, how far we can go.

The Sun Your Ego Structure

The Sun is the center of our solar system. All life revolves around it. In the same way, the ego is the center of personal identity and gives integration and continuity to individual experience. In this sense, it might be said that the Sun in Astrology reveals a person’s character and is the prime indicator of what the individual is trying to achieve. This is the fixed pillar at the center of the person around which all else revolves.

The sign placement of the Sun indicates how your natural drive and ambition are going to be directed. The sign of the Sun is the most primary indicator of the forms of experience you are attracted to. The house placement of the Sun shows the primary area of expression for the individual in life. There is a psychological, emotional, and physical significance to the house placement of the Sun.

Aspects

When a planet in the sky makes a specific angle to another planet, that angle is called an “aspect.” Planets that are aspecting each other are influencing each other, changing each other’s energy. Some aspects are soft, meaning that the qualities of the two planets come together smoothly and harmoniously. Other aspects are hard, meaning that the qualities are at odds with one another and may create tension or conflict.

There are a handful of different types of aspects, but most astrologers focus on six major aspects: the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, quincunx, and opposition. You can learn what each of these means -- plus a few rarer aspects -- by reading below.

A note about Orbs: Planets don’t have to be at the EXACT degree for us to feel its effects. The number of degrees that two planets can travel apart while still being considered in aspect is called the “orb.” Different astrologers use different orbs, but the closer that two planets are to an exact aspect degree (the smaller the orb), the more noticeable the effects will be.

Conjunction 0 degrees

0 degrees

If two planets occupy the same degree or are very close to each other, they are said to be conjunct. Most astrologers believe that conjunctions are dynamic, but not as difficult and challenging as squares and oppositions. Planets that are conjunct tend to energize each other.

Sextile 60 degrees

60 degrees

If two planets are close to being 60 degrees apart, they are said to be sextile to each other. Sextiles are similar to trine aspects and considered favorable.

Squares 90 degrees

90 degrees

If two planets are close to being 90 degrees apart, they are said to be square to each other. Almost all astrologers agree that squares are motivating but can be difficult. Some astrologers emphasize the negative potential of a square, while others focus on the character-building potential inherent in this aspect.

Trine 120 degrees

120 degrees

If two planets are close being 120 degrees apart, they are said to be trine to each other. Most astrologers agree that trines are soft and easy, pleasant and harmonious, but sometimes lazy. However, trines can provide relief from the tension inherent in more challenging aspects that may also be present in a person’s chart.

Quincunx 150 degrees

150 degrees

If two planets are close to being 150 degrees apart, they form a quincunx aspect. Most astrologers view the quincunx as being awkward, bothersome, and requiring adjustments from a person.

Opposition 180 degrees

180 degrees

If two planets are close to being opposite to each other in the sky, they are forming an opposition aspect. Most astrologers agree that oppositions are difficult and often emphasize challenges with other people. However, the challenges suggested by an opposition can be balanced and resolved with effort.

Semi-Sextile aspect 30 degrees

30 degrees

If two planets are close to being 30 degrees apart, they form a semi-sextile aspect. This is generally regarded as being a slightly harmonious or favorable minor aspect.

Semi-Square aspect 45 degrees

45 degrees

If two planets are close to being 45 degrees apart, they are in semi-square aspect. This minor aspect is similar to a square aspect, though often not quite as intense. Some astrologers feel that the semi-square creates very internal challenges or conflicts.

Sesquiquadrate 135 degrees

135 degrees

If two planets are close to being 135 degrees apart, they are in sesquiquadrate aspect. Generally regarded as being similar to a square, but some astrologers feel that this minor aspect is easier to release and express than a square aspect.
