Your birth chart is essentially a picture of the sky at your moment of birth. Because your chart is based on the specific time and place of your birth, no two charts are exactly alike -- meaning that, in the entire history of humanity, you are absolutely unique!

Astrology is based on an ancient idea: “As above, so below.” In other words, the planets and stars above can tell us something about life here on Earth. So your birth chart is like your “road map” on the journey of life … but remember, you're the one who decides which road to go down, how fast to drive, and who gets to come along for the ride!

Pisces Sun

Like the fish that symbolize them, Pisces move with the current of spirit. Pisces are spiritual, emotional, intuitive and creative. They are often attracted to the mystical side of things, to the artistic and creative side of things, or both! When the rest of us become jaded, Pisces still have the childlike ability to see magic and enchantment … and to show that world to the rest of us.

1. Your Elements

Your Building Blocks

Before we get into the details, we're going to look at the broadest categories in your birth chart: the elements. The four elements -- Fire, Earth, Air, and Water -- are the fundamental building blocks of the universe. They're also the building blocks of your birth chart! Each zodiac sign is associated with one of the elements, and all of the signs of the same element share certain basic characteristics. For example, Fire signs -- Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius -- are typically enthusiastic, action-oriented, and driven.

Strong vs. weak elements: In this chapter, we reference the elements in your chart that are “strong” and which ones are “weak” -- this is determined by the number of planets you have in the signs of each element. For example, if you have several planets in Earth signs -- Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn -- then you are strong in Earth. If you have very few planets in Water signs -- Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces -- then you are weak in Water.

Typically, people are strong in one or two elements and weak in others. If you're aware of your elemental make-up, you can make the most of strong areas and watch out for problems in the weak areas. Remember, though, that the elements offer only a broad overview of your nature. As you read on, you'll learn how these characteristics are affected or even overshadowed by other things occurring in your birth chart.

Fire is Strong

You are a fiery individual, filled with tremendous passion and zest for life. You thrive in situations where there is energy, excitement, action, movement, dynamism and drama. Along with your exuberant vitality and enthusiasm, you have an acute ability to visualize future possibilities, and an almost childlike faith in "what could be". Unless you have a vision, an aspiration or a wonderful dream to believe in, you are not completely happy. You have a great sense of the majesty, the grandeur, and the adventure of life but tend to overlook the magic in small things and everyday life.

You also have a strong urge to express yourself spontaneously and creatively, without conforming to others ways or conventions. Personal freedom and independence are very important to you and you resist being "owned" or dictated to. Secretly you are apt to feel that you are special, charmed, somehow above or outside the realm of "ordinary" people and mundane life.

You have a strong ego and can be excessively proud, dominating or concerned with self. You have a positive, vigorous, active approach to life, and forcing your intentions and desires upon circumstances feels more natural to you than flowing with or just allowing life to unfold. Essentially you are very "yang" (assertive, competitive, outgoing, direct), and the "yin" qualities of passive acceptance, receptivity, gentleness, and subtlety do not come easily to you. You inspire others with your generous spirit, your idealism, spark, confidence, and joie de vivre, but you can also irritate them with your self-centeredness and your insistence on expressing yourself freely without regard for others' needs or opinions. You also have trouble being content in the present and would benefit by learning to consciously pacify your restlessness and developing the qualities of tranquility and peacefulness.

Fire is Strong and Sun is in a Water Sign

In addition to your energetic, ambitious nature, as described above, you also have a need for tranquility and a deep, inner life.

2. Your Inner Self

The Sun

Now that you understand the balance of elements in your birth chart, let's turn to the planets, starting with the most important one of all: the Sun. When someone asks, “What’s your sign?” they’re asking about your Sun sign. As you’ll see, there’s much more to Astrology than just your Sun sign -- it’s only one piece of the cosmic puzzle. But as the planet around which everything else revolves, the Sun is considered the most significant feature of your birth chart.

For simplicity’s sake, each of the astrological features of your birth chart are called planets, even things like the Sun and Moon. Each of the planets represents a different facet of who you are; the Sun, for instance, represents your core self. The Sun’s sign and house show how you “shine your light” -- your vitality, creativity, and even your work. When you express the qualities of your Sun sign in a positive way, you “light up” and feel confident, happy, and energized.

Ascendant in Aries and Sun in Pisces

Although you strive for honesty and candor, you are really very nonaggressive and kind, as discussed below. You often feel a great chasm between your idealism and the harsh realities that often require confrontation and sometimes conflict. However, you have a gift for being able to stand up by yourself with integrity, but without malice or vindictiveness. Your strength combined with your compassion can make you a leader who is deeply sensitive to the needs of others. Also, your pioneering spirit may spur you to introduce new styles or concepts in the arts, music or other imaginative area.

Sun in Pisces

☉ ♓

At heart you are very gentle, impressionable, and receptive -a dreamer. The world of your imagination, feelings and intuition is as real to you as anything in the outer world, though you may have trouble verbalizing or interpreting your inner experiences in a way others can understand. Mystical, artistic, musical, emotional and imaginative, you have a rich inner life, though you may seem rather unobtrusive and quiet outwardly. You usually keep to yourself.

You have great sensitivity and empathy with others, and you often sense things psychically or intuitively which prove to be correct. You are tolerant, forgiving and nonjudgmental, accepting people unconditionally regardless of their flaws, mistakes or outward appearance. You have deep compassion for the suffering of any fellow creature and often feel others' pain as if it were your own. You sympathize with the needy, the disadvantaged, the misfits of society. You are capable of giving selflessly, living a life of devoted and compassionate service to others, as a healer, physician, social worker, or minister. However, you tend to give indiscriminately, to let others take advantage of your kindness, and to encourage the weak to remain so by becoming dependent upon you. You have little sense of boundaries, of limits, of knowing when to say "no". Moderation and self-discipline are not your strong points.

You are a lover and a peacemaker rather than a fighter, and you try to avoid open conflict. You will patiently ignore or "tune out" problems and hope they will go away by themselves, rather than directly confronting them, and you tend to lack the positive fighting spirit that is sometimes necessary to overcome challenges. You are fluid, open, nonresistant and somewhat passive. You do things in a subtle, often covert, manner.

Your gifts may also lie in the realm of the creative, artistic, or musical, for you have a great sensitivity, inspiration and limitless imagination. You respond very strongly to beauty and to love.

Your faults include a tendency to be lazy and negligent, and to wallow in self-pity rather than taking strong, definite action to change your life for the better. You also tend to become so detached from your immediate environment that you live in a disorderly, chaotic sort of hodgepodge, though this probably bothers those around you more than it bothers you.

Sun in the 11th House

☉ Ⅺ

Leading groups and classes, and being involved in community efforts, social activities, events or movements are areas where you really shine and express your creativity. An awareness of politics or the larger social impact of individual actions is natural to you.

Sun Sextile Mars

☉ ⚹ ♂

You can be an inspiring leader of a team or group effort. Your dynamism and energy evokes the same in others, and you see healthy competition between people as a plus. Generally, you enjoy fine health as well.

Sun aspects both Mars and Saturn

While you do have a lot of drive, you frequently hold yourself back. Learning to endure frustration and to patiently overcome the obstacles in your life (or your own internal caution and resistance!) is one of your tasks.

Sun Sextile Jupiter

☉ ⚹ ♃

Your life is apt to be blessed with more than your share of helpful friends, fortuitous connections and doors opening to you at just the right time. Because you are usually willing to share and to give back to others in a generous way, you continue to generate successes in your life no matter how unfortunate prevailing circumstances are. Beware, however, of becoming an opportunist.

Sun aspects both Jupiter and Saturn

However you also have a heavier side which keeps your optimism from becoming ungrounded or overblown. You tend to seesaw between your faith, vision and high aspirations, and your caution and realism (or fear!). You cannot and do not rely on good luck or grace alone, and you accept the need for hard work. Your doubting or "heavy" side is described below.

Sun Sextile Saturn

☉ ⚹ ♄

You have a healthy amount of self-control and self-discipline. You also radiate a rather responsible, trustworthy, solid feeling about yourself which will win you the confidence of others, especially your superiors.

Sun aspects both Saturn and Uranus

Although you take yourself and your responsibilities seriously, there is also a part of you that rebel against rules, restrictions and answering to outside authority. You can feel torn between conforming or fulfilling your obligations, and breaking free of them. Your wilder side will now be described.

Sun Sextile Uranus

☉ ⚹ ♅

You are an original! You radiate a sort of electrical excitement about the things you are interested in, and convey this to others, but you get bored rather quickly also. You don't mind being a bit unusual or breaking a few rules either.

3. Your Outer Self

Your Ascendant

While the Sun symbolizes your essential self, the Rising sign -- also called the Ascendant -- represents the part of yourself that the rest of the world sees. Your Rising sign describes your outer personality, appearance, and general outlook on life. Think of it as the mask you wear when you head out into the world. Compared to the Sun in the previous chapter, your Rising sign may match up well with your Sun sign, meaning that people easily see the “real you,” or may oppose it, meaning that your mask hides some of your true identity from others.

Aries Rising

♈ 􏿴

You meet life head on and throw yourself into new experiences with zest and enthusiasm. You are direct, straightforward, assertive and usually completely aboveboard in all your dealings. Candid and incapable of guile, insincerity or phoniness, you project a confident and sometimes arrogant appearance to others. You often lack tact and sensitivity, and can be completely oblivious to others' needs or act inadvertently selfishly. You are self-reliant and don't depend upon social approval and reinforcement as much as other people do. You like to be original and do not mind going it alone. You may feel that you do not fit into groups very well, and that you do not naturally blend in and cooperate with others very easily. You like to be either a leader or a loner.

You are a doer and thrive on freedom, challenge and activity. You tend to think in clear, black-and-white terms, and to be somewhat simplistic in your outlook, which enables you to act in a very decisive and self-assured manner. When inspired with an idea, you feel such a sense of urgency and excitement about it that you will often charge ahead and try to implement it in a rather bold but poorly planned and crudely executed way. Patience and careful attention to detail are not your forte. However, you never accept defeat and will have brilliant and unprecedented successes and discoveries, as well as painful failures. To you, it is far better to make mistakes than it is to play it safe and never try.

You are scornful of what you see as weakness or passivity in others and also of the human tendency to imitate and follow. You are not a follower. Others see you as a strong individual, and perhaps brash and brazen as well. You present a strong front to the world and generally do not allow others to see your vulnerable or insecure side.

Moon in Aries Conjunct Ascendant in Aries

☽ ☌ 􏿴

You act very much from instinct, emotion, and in the heat of the moment, and you are prone to childish displays of anger if your desires are frustrated. However, these episodes are usually short-lived, not something you stew over.

Positively, your enthusiasm and drive is often infectious, stimulating courage and a will-to-overcome in other people. You can be a great motivator.

Mercury Sextile Ascendant

☿ ⚹ 􏿴

You come across to others as intelligent, alert, articulate, knowledgeable and communicative. You are quite curious and interested in the people and events around you, and can't resist commenting about them.

You also need to be busy and active, and you move quickly. You also appear to be restless. Keeping your mind or hands occupied helps with that.

Neptune Square Ascendant

♆ □ 􏿴

You are extremely sensitive to all of the incoming impressions and energies around you, and at times you can be overcome or dominated by more forceful personalities. Learning to establish clear boundaries is important for you, as you tend to become enmeshed emotionally and/or psychically with whomever you become close. You may have the chameleon's trait of seeming to become the people or person you are with the most.

Pluto Quincunx Ascendant

⯓ ⚻ 􏿴

There is a certain depth and intensity about you that may be threatening to others. No matter how gentle or unassuming you may be on the surface, you are also a force to be reckoned with. You have causes, passions or desires that drive you and when one of these is aroused you are quite zealous in your pursuit or defense of it.

4. Your Emotions

The Moon

Along with your Sun and Rising signs, the Moon -- the planet closest to Earth -- is also a very significant part of your birth chart. The mysterious and ever-changing Moon rules your feminine side: your emotions, your needs, and your intuition. The Moon's position and aspects help you understand what you need from others and what makes you feel safe, supported, and secure.

While the Sun represents your conscious self -- who you think you are -- the Moon works on a subconscious level. You may not be as aware of the Moon's influence in your life because it's a part of you that operates automatically. When you're on “auto-pilot,” you are most likely acting out the qualities of your Moon.

Moon in Aries

☽ ♈

Emotional outbursts are frequent with you due to your fiery temper and emotional impulsiveness. You express yourself very directly and honestly and no one has to guess what your true feelings are. However, you dislike showing any personal weaknesses or needs for support, comfort, and nurturing. You are often impatient with yourself and with others. You abhor emotional dependency and dislike "complainers".

You inspire others to take positive action in their lives by your own enthusiasm and eagerness to meet life's challenges, and are attracted to people who are adventurous, courageous, and independent. You are rather bossy, but you do not like to be with people that you can boss around too much. You enjoy a good fight sometimes. Relationships built upon mutual respect and a good deal of emotional freedom are ideal for you.

You become very cross if you do not have enough vigorous physical activity. You will feel your best if you "do battle" on the tennis or racquetball court (or engage in some other competitive sport) frequently.

Moon in the 12th House

☽ Ⅻ

Your own feelings and emotions are something of an enigma to you, and it is often difficult for you to share with others what you are feeling.

You frequently withdraw from contact with the world, and need a healing, peaceful environment in order to blossom and come out of yourself.

You identify with the oppressed, disenfranchised or underdog in any situation and want to help them or care for them in some way.

Moon Square Neptune

☽ □ ♆

You are a dreamer, attracted to the inner, mystical side of life, and may have trouble distinguishing the real from the imagined or illusory. You do not enjoy confrontation and become very evasive when problems in your personal life arise, escaping into your imagination in order to avoid dealing with them directly. You are also rather gullible and naive about people, especially if your sympathy has been aroused. You are very sensitive to music and can use it to bring yourself into emotional balance and harmony.

Moon Quincunx Pluto

☽ ⚻ ⯓

Powerful and complex emotions stir you, and your emotional life and closest personal relationships are apt to be tumultuous until you do some deep soul searching. Buried feelings and memories that you do not want to deal with may surface at unexpected times. Holding in fears, secrets, or "taboo" thoughts and feelings can only serve to intensify them, and you need to share them with someone who is sympathetic, trustworthy and fairly objective. Ridding yourself of emotional compulsions and deeply embedded patterns that do not serve you can be tremendously liberating, if you are willing to do the necessary inner house cleaning.

5. Your Intellect

The Planet Mercury

From the feeling nature of the Moon we now turn to the realm of the mind, represented by the planet Mercury. Because Mercury travels closest to the Sun, it has a shorter and faster orbit than the other planets. For this reason, the ancients associated Mercury with the wing-footed messenger god by the same name. Mercury's position and aspects show you how your mind works -- how you think and learn, as well as how you communicate those thoughts to others.

Mercury in Aquarius

☿ ♒

You are a progressive thinker, open and receptive to new technologies and breakthroughs in science, and the latest discoveries in any field. You have high expectations and a deep belief that mankind's problems can be solved through the use of our creative intelligence and inventive mind. You have no patience for those whose conservative, unimaginative outlook limits their capacity to find solutions and envision a better future. You also like to keep abreast of current developments in world affairs, for you instinctively know that what happens in one part of the world affects everyone. You have a strong humanitarian impulse. Practically speaking, you have an aptitude for organization and enjoy being involved in cooperative endeavors or businesses that are contemporary and innovative.

Mercury in the 11th House

☿ Ⅺ

You have a good understanding of group trends, politics, mass movements and community affairs. Sharing ideas with groups of people is something you do well and are likely to be involved with. You collaborate well in group efforts and are likely to be part of a successful team or large organization.

Moon Sextile Mercury

☽ ⚹ ☿

You have talent for establishing rapport and communicating with people, great personnel skills, and you are adept at dealing with the public. You communicate concern, interest and the ability to listen, which encourages people to open up and confide in you even if they do not know you well. You create closeness with others by talking to them (even gossiping will do), or by writing intimate, personal letters. Women feel you understand them.

Mercury Sextile Venus

☿ ⚹ ♀

You appreciate aesthetics and have a fine sense of form, design and beauty. You could develop great technical skill as an artist, designer, craftsman or creative writer. You could also sell objects of beauty -- artistic products, cosmetics, jewelry, etc.

You have the ability to please and harmonize well with others and a talent for assuaging strain in the relationship of two other people. Your sense of humor, tact and personal charm are a great benefit to you in any work with people on a one-to-one level.

Mercury Square Pluto

☿ □ ⯓

Never satisfied with the face value of anything, you are always probing beneath the surface for deeper reasons and hidden motives -- though you rarely reveal your own. You have a very suspicious, even paranoid, side. Your mind is penetrating and deep, and you have an aptitude for research, investigative reporting or private investigation. You are keenly interested in the deeper aspects of the human psyche, with a sort of "x-ray vision" regarding the inner motivations and intentions of others. You are drawn to anything secret, hidden or mysterious, and may pursue esoteric or occult studies. You are also a forceful and convincing speaker or writer, with the ability to influence people's thinking by the sheer power of your conviction.

6. How You Love

The Planet Venus

The next planet in the solar system is Venus, named for the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Venus reveals how you relate to others -- the kinds of people you are attracted to, the kinds of people who are attracted to you, and your unique way of experiencing love. Venus helps us realize what kinds of interpersonal relationships we need to feel happy and fulfilled. On a more basic level, Venus also describes what gives us pleasure and what we find desirable or valuable.

Venus in Aries

♀ ♈

Your love feelings and desires are easily aroused but it may be difficult to sustain your romantic interest in a relationship after the initial, exciting "chase and conquest". You enjoy a partner who is dynamic and alive, someone with a strong independent streak, and you do not like things to become too peaceful or predictable in the love arena. You want to see sparks fly once in awhile, even if that means instigating a fight.

Venus in the 12th House

♀ Ⅻ

You often hide your affection, or find your feelings difficult to express or get across to the person you love. Being openly affectionate and trusting often doesn't seem safe to you. You may feel your love won't be appreciated or reciprocated. You may get involved in secret love affairs or fall in love with a person who is quite unavailable to you. Love and sacrifice often seem to go hand in hand for you -- having to give something up to be with the one you love, or having to relinquish some person or some aspect of an important love relationship.

Moon Conjunct Venus

☽ ☌ ♀

No matter how you appear on the surface, you have a very soft heart and others can always appeal to your sympathetic, affectionate side. You especially care about the needs of children, mothers and families, and you want a love partner who values marriage, home and family as much as you do. Unkindness or harshness offends you very much.

Venus Quincunx Pluto

♀ ⚻ ⯓

You are prone to get involved in highly intense, even obsessive relationships -- "fatal attractions", so to speak. At its darkest, this urge for intensity in the personal arena may compel you to choose friends or mates who are rather dangerous or dishonorable characters with a penchant for manipulating and inflicting pain on their "loved ones". On the other hand, you may be tempted to use your own sexuality or charm to play the same sort of game, to use love or friendship as a bargaining chip or to gain power over others. Even if your intentions are basically good, you will find that your closest relationships are rather tumultuous affairs in which some rather unlovely aspects of yourself (such as jealousy, the desire to dominate or to be a victim, etc.) keep showing their faces. These are qualities that need to be understood and ultimately outgrown.

Venus Square Neptune

♀ □ ♆

You have a very romantic, idealistic vision of love and may be disillusioned to discover that no real, flesh and blood human being ever quite lives up to your dream image of the Perfect Love. Though you frequently fantasize about love and romance, you may avoid becoming intimately involved with anyone or making definite commitments. You can be evasive and dishonest with yourself and others, when it comes to love. Some of your love yearnings may be expressed through art, music or an involvement with mysticism.

7. How You Live Life

The Planet Mars

We now move from the feminine symbol of Venus to the masculine symbol of Mars, which influences our motivations. Mars is the first planet beyond Earth in our solar system. It represents your activity level and drive -- the way you approach life. This can mean anything from how you behave at your job to what activities you pursue to how you go about your daily life.

Mars in Sagittarius

♂ ♐

You are aspiring, enterprising, and forever following some bright and distant star, planning some new venture or investigating new potentials. You are definitely "upwardly mobile" in either a material or spiritual sense (or both). You aim high and are not content simply with a quiet, secure existence. You like to stretch your limits, to see how far you can go, and to take risks. You are a positive thinker, expect success for yourself and are philosophical about failures. You are flexible and bounce back from disappointment rather quickly, usually with another hopeful new idea you want to try. Your enthusiasm and confidence are contagious and enable you to enlist the aid and support you need for your projects. However, you sometimes promise more than you can actually achieve, because you are overly optimistic or pay insufficient attention to the practicalities involved.

You also tend to get distracted and to have too many things going at once. Although it is very difficult for you, there are times when you simply must develop commitment, perseverance and persistence in order to make your dreams and goals a concrete reality. Too often you fall short of what you could attain because you are unwilling to persist through the difficult or less exciting times.

You also enjoy competition and usually do not take it too seriously. Sports and entrepreneurial endeavors are good ways to channel your energy.

Mars in the 9th House

♂ Ⅸ

You have passionate convictions and will fight for them when challenged. You are willing to dedicate a great deal of your energy and force to an important cause, and you'll act decisively on your beliefs, rather than simply espousing them.

Sometimes you get so involved and identified with your ideas that you cannot really be receptive to anyone who opposes you philosophically.

Mars Trine Jupiter

♂ △ ♃

Your self-confidence and vitality are strong and you believe you can do just about anything you want to. You have an enterprising spirit, a good sense of timing, and the ability to sense what will succeed and what won't. You usually make fortunate decisions in work or business activities. You enjoy healthy competition and you have a rather playful, good-humored attitude toward it. You mostly compete with yourself to see how far you can go or how much you can accomplish. You like to keep stretching your limits.

Mars aspects both Jupiter and Saturn

Although enterprising and forward-looking, you are also capable of much self-discipline, patience and effort. You may swing from confidence and trust in the future to pessimism and doubt, when it comes to achieving your aims in life.

Mars Conjunct Saturn

♂ ☌ ♄

You are very serious about reaching your goals and feel that keeping your nose to the grindstone is the only way to do it. Hard work, persistent effort and concentration upon a single objective are the ways you achieve your aims in life. You exercise great self-control, even self-denial, in order to accomplish what you desire. You meet obstacles stoically and will struggle patiently through difficult circumstances. You feel that you must rely on yourself alone, that it's all on your shoulders, and you can be a harsh disciplinarian, expecting far too much from yourself and others. Often you hold yourself back, doubting your own power and ability. You may feel that you meet great resistance whenever you try to assert yourself or take initiative, and that is very frustrating to you. However, you have the power of endurance and a dogged determination to overcome all obstacles.

Mars aspects both Saturn and Uranus

Although you are patient and steady when pursuing an objective, when you finally lose patience you lose it completely! In addition to having great tenacity and perseverance, you have a daring and rebellious side as well:

Mars Conjunct Uranus

♂ ☌ ♅

Dynamic, self-willed, and fiercely independent, you have extraordinary drive and energy. When you want something, you want it NOW, and you act quickly, impulsively and decisively. Your impatience inclines you to be abrupt with people and reckless. You need a great deal of personal freedom to do things in your own way and do not happily conform to schedules, rules or regimes imposed by others. You are intolerant of authority and can be very rebellious. You are very frank with others, sometimes brutally so. You may have an explosive temper. High-strung and often nervous and tense, you find it difficult to slow down, pace yourself, or relax. You are always on the go. You are restless, daring and experimental.

Jupiter Trine Saturn

♃ △ ♄

You have a good balance between idealism, optimism and vision for the future on one hand and a realistic sense of what can actually be achieved on the other hand. Your judgment and business sense are usually quite good. You possess patience and the ability to accept limitation and frustration on the way to your goals.

Older, more experienced individuals or mentors are likely to play a significant and beneficial role in your life.

Jupiter Trine Uranus

♃ △ ♅

You have a knack for bringing new ideas and plans into fruition with less difficulty than others. Your positive, enthusiastic attitude attracts helpful situations and opportunities to you.

8. Your Strengths

The Planet Jupiter and Your Midheaven

Next we meet Jupiter, king of the gods and the largest planet in our solar system. Jupiter represents luck, opportunity, and reward. Looking at Jupiter in your birth chart will help you realize the possibilities that are available to you and figure out what kind of work will benefit you the most.

Complementing Jupiter is another part of your birth chart, the Midheaven. The Midheaven is the highest point in your chart, representing your purpose in life: your career, fame, and public reputation. Your midheaven is a guiding light toward what will bring you ultimate fulfillment in life.

Jupiter in Aries

♃ ♈

You believe strongly in the power of positivity and in each individual's ability to make life anything desired through one's own initiative and effort. The more you rely on yourself, the better you feel and you find it difficult to ask for or accept outside help. The joy of competing (and especially winning!) runs deep in you.

Jupiter in the 1st House

♃ Ⅰ

You have an optimistic outlook on life and to others you appear jovial, confident, and expansive. You do what you can to be encouraging and helpful to other people, and your generosity and lack of pettiness makes you very well-liked.

Because you see yourself as a lucky person, you may feel that you can "get away with anything", without negative consequences. You tend to go to excess and have little sense of moderation (or even caution, at times).

Moon Square Midheaven

☽ □ 􏿷

You may have to overcome something in your background or personal past in order to achieve your long-range goals and ambitions. Sometimes you're apt to feel pulled in two different directions -- what others expect of you or what you need to do to progress, versus what your old conditioning or your emotional predisposition would have you do. Overcoming the pull of the past is the key.

Venus Square Midheaven

♀ □ 􏿷

You tend to want to take the easy road to success, and unless other factors in your chart suggest a capacity for effort or a lot of energy, laziness could interfere with achieving whatever ambitions you have. You tend to gain your objectives through your personal charm and appeal. You also possess a fine aesthetic sense that could be a prominent factor in your career.

Neptune Conjunct Midheaven

♆ ☌ 􏿷

Your attunement to the intangible or unseen world is very strong. Thus, your drive and ambitions in life are apt to be colored by your subtle awareness, your mystical or intuitive sensitivity. Imagination, "make believe", creative fantasy and the ability to visualize may be aspects of your career, also. You have the ability to "channel" healing or inspirational messages.

Pluto Sextile Midheaven

You have an aptitude for detective or research work, or any field that involves digging beneath the surface for the hidden elements. An interest in psychology, hypnosis and utilizing subconscious forces or subliminal messages may well be a key factor in your career.

Whatever your choice of profession, you are apt to feel a sense of inner mission about it and may pursue it with great zeal and intensity.

9. Your Challenges

The Planet Saturn and The North Node

Saturn has a lot to do with your life's work and ambitions. However, Saturn is considered a “heavy” influence, showing where you will be tested. It represents the lessons and challenges you have to tackle on your way to success.

Slow-moving Saturn teaches patience and endurance. It’s placement in your birth chart shows the limitations placed on you and the types of experiences you may go through in order to learn how to overcome these obstacles.

Saturn in Capricorn

♄ ♑

You have a great capacity for self-denial in the pursuit of a long-range goal. You are capable of hard work and persistent labor, but you may lack joyfulness and the ability to play. You often feel burdened by life's demands and responsibilities, and may envy those who seem to attract what they want in life without a great deal of personal effort.

There is a very judgmental, stern, and uncompromising side of yourself that may inhibit you a great deal. You must avoid becoming heavy and cynical, or becoming a rather callous, sophisticated adult whose practicality and realism squeeze out the playful, imaginative side of life.

Saturn in the 9th House

♄ Ⅸ

Your attitude toward religion, philosophy and politics is very conservative and possibly narrow or rigid. On the one hand, you may believe in nothing that is speculative or intangible, requiring proof for any idea presented to you. Each idea is thoroughly and systematically examined. On the other hand, you may tenaciously cling to your grand philosophical or metaphysical beliefs and opinions, refusing to modify them or to be open and receptive to others' insights and perspectives.

Your overall outlook on life is serious, and you may feel that life or God will punish you if you do not watch your step!

Saturn Conjunct Uranus

♄ ☌ ♅

You are serious and sincere about your interests, you do not accept superficial answers and you are not easily placated. You want to bring your inspirations into concrete reality, and you don't mind upsetting some apple carts if necessary. You become impatient with others for being hesitant to implement new ideas and take action, and your occasional outbreaks of brusque, insensitive behavior often do more harm than good.

Overcoming Your Challenges

When we're under stress, we instinctively slip into certain habits and patterns of behavior. In Astrology, this “survival mode” is represented by the South Node of the Moon. The South Node shows the path of least resistance that you're likely to take, because it’s what’s already comfortable to you. However, just because it’s the easiest path doesn’t make it the best. Instead, the North Node of the Moon shows you a healthier, more balanced method of dealing with difficult situations. Learning to cope with problems through your North Node rather than your South Node will help you put an end to negative patterns and grow as a person.

North Node in Pisces

☊ ♓

Cultivating the qualities of empathy, gentleness and compassion will help counterbalance your deeply ingrained perfectionism and critical nature. When under stress, you are apt to try to rigorously analyze and to focus on what needs to be corrected or improved, and you can easily become problem-oriented, losing sight of the big picture and of what is working.

Learn to relax and surrender to the flow of events without having to figure everything out all the time. Let your feelings and intuitions flow more freely, be more flexible and fluid, use your imagination and let your dreams emerge!

North Node in the 12th House

☊ Ⅻ

The arena you are most likely to wrestle with these issues is deep within yourself, as you face your own demons, fears, and struggles -- those aspects of life that are not easily or readily shared, those parts of yourself or your life that you keep hidden from public view.

The qualities described above can also be beneficially channeled into some sort of charitable work, altruistic service, ministering to people in need.

10. How You Fit In

The Planets Uranus, Pluto and Neptune

The outer planets -- Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto -- are so far away they can only be seen with a telescope. Since they move so slowly, they remain in the same sign for several years. For example, while Jupiter takes 12 years to circle around the Sun and therefore spends about a year in each sign, Pluto with its 240-year orbit can spend over 20 years in the same sign!

Because all the people in your age group will most likely have Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in the same signs, they are called “generational” planets. Instead of describing your personal life, they reveal influences that affect your entire generation.

However, the houses in your chart where the outer planets reside -- determined by your time of birth, rather than your year of birth -- show how you may go against the grain or be unusual among people of your age. In brief, Uranus represents your rebellious, unusual, innovative, and possibly unstable side; Neptune represents your imagination, dreams, and ideals; and Pluto shows your passion, depth, and intensity.

Your 7-Year Group: Uranus in Capricorn

♅ ♑

You are part of a 7 year group of people who are active in reforming businesses, governments and other large social structures. A great deal of streamlining and reorganizing takes place, most of which will help to improve the well-being of people, the ultimate goal of these reforms. Your generation will promote various reforms that will vary in different nations. For example, some will increase socialization of public services and others will put more services in the hands of private industry. In either case, your generation strives for greater efficiency and a great deal of waste is eliminated from industry and government.

Uranus in the 9th House

♅ Ⅸ

You are unconventional, even iconoclastic, in your attitude toward religion, philosophy and politics. You tend to see traditional religion as restrictive, meaningless ritual with little to offer you, and you're eager to experiment with other, alternative pathways. You have lots of creative, innovative ideas and you often feel that others are unwilling to take risks and venture out of their deeply ingrained perspectives and views.

Your 12-Year Group: Pluto in Scorpio

⯓ ♏

You are part of a 12 year group of people who have a complex and deep emotional side. Your age group has a great fascination for the mysteries of life, and members of your age group will make extraordinary breakthroughs in the understanding of life processes; major advances in biological sciences will open up new technological possibilities. Intensive probing into genetic structure and cellular processes will accelerate genetic engineering into new vistas. Your generation also probes the mysteries of birth and death, and members of your age group will even develop laboratories for forging new understanding of what happens at birth and death. Other breakthroughs will be made in the understanding of animal behavior and sexual activity. Archeological studies will unearth vast new insights into the history of man, and the exploration of the ocean will receive a new impetus, spurred by unusual and interesting findings made at the bottom of the sea.

Behind all of this work is the deep, probing, penetrating interest in the mysterious. There may be a deep fascination with sex, power and the occult as well. Hypnosis, karate and other mental and physical training techniques are likely to be very popular with your age group. The love of mystery is also likely to bring a revival of mystery novels and movies; your age group will bring the macabre into current fashion and style.

You are an emotionally complex group, and you can be prone to some very strange behavior. Intrigue and mystery are exciting to your age group, and hopefully this does not get the better of you, causing you to act in a cruel or grotesque manner. There is a chance that crime, violence and emotional disturbance will be relatively high in your age group, but hopefully your interest in the mysterious, strange, grotesque and macabre will not manifest in this way.

Pluto in the 7th House

⯓ Ⅶ

Emotional intensity, compulsive attraction and a sense of fate or destiny characterize your one-to-one relationships. It's as if you simply cannot have light, superficial relationships; they are inevitably profound, intense experiences which reveal your depths to you. You may be drawn to powerful, charismatic, willful people that challenge, thwart, and ultimately evoke your own power and strengths. Your marriage is likely to be the arena for your greatest growth.

Your 14-Year Group: Neptune in Capricorn

♆ ♑

You are part of a 14 year group of people who are conservative and traditional in spiritual aspirations and religious outlook. Your age group returns to some traditional basics in religion, and also traditional styles in music and art. Classical music and literature have a revival with your age group, and a great deal of inspiration is gained from the masters of arts, music, literature and philosophy throughout history. Your age group is contemplative and reflective about religious matters and you take an objective and logical approach to religious issues. Many of you are cynics and critics of spiritual and metaphysical ideas.

Other age groups criticize your group for not having enough heart and compassion. Sometimes this is true and is evidenced by some unusually crafty and manipulative fraud and deception that occurs in the higher ranks of governments and large businesses.

Neptune in the 9th House

♆ Ⅸ

You love to dream, fantasize and speculate. You are willing to entertain the most far-fetched ideas and philosophies, since to you anything is possible.

Anything exotic, alien or faraway holds a great attraction for you. You can have very otherworldly beliefs that are quite impractical and irrelevant to your everyday existence.

Neptune Sextile Pluto

♆ ⚹ ⯓

The entire generation to which you belong has tremendous opportunities for spiritual rebirth and awakening. This will not be forced upon you or precipitated by unavoidable events; rather, it comes from an inner yearning and a natural propensity to seek the depths.

11. Today & Beyond

This is just the beginning of your cosmic exploration!

Planets

The planets of our solar system -- including the Sun, Moon, and Pluto -- create a sort of map in the cosmos. When a person looks at their Astrology birth chart, they are looking at the exact locations of each planet at the moment of their birth -- in essence, a map of their life.

Each planet is connected to a deity, archetype, or idea that represents some part of our fundamental nature as humans. By understanding the meaning of each planet and the ways it can influence our lives, we have the opportunity to understand not only what drives us, but, ultimately, how far we can go.

The Sun Your Ego Structure

Your Ego Structure

The Sun is the center of our solar system. All life revolves around it. In the same way, the ego is the center of personal identity and gives integration and continuity to individual experience. In this sense, it might be said that the Sun in Astrology reveals a person’s character and is the prime indicator of what the individual is trying to achieve. This is the fixed pillar at the center of the person around which all else revolves.

The sign placement of the Sun indicates how your natural drive and ambition are going to be directed. The sign of the Sun is the most primary indicator of the forms of experience you are attracted to. The house placement of the Sun shows the primary area of expression for the individual in life. There is a psychological, emotional, and physical significance to the house placement of the Sun.

Planets in aspect to the Moon are symbolic of qualities in the personality that are used instinctively, habitually, and with a high degree of versatility. While the Sun reveals your intended purposes and lessons for this present life cycle, the Moon represents what you have already done and developed, hence, what is instinctive and natural to you and what you tend to do over and over again.

Your childhood is also reflected in the Moon’s placement, because it’s through those childhood circumstances that any unresolved past-life issues are restimulated. Your subconscious predisposition is indicated by the Moon’s position as well. It is the psychic imprint of the past. Furthermore, the nodes of the Moon in an Astrology chart describe behavior patterns from the past and indicate the direction you are evolving toward as you move forward in your life.

Midheaven Career & Reputation

Career & Reputation

The Midheaven (English for “Medium Coeli”) is the highest point of a birth chart, located on the cusp of the 10th house. To astrologers, the Midheaven governs career, public reputation, and interactions with authority.

Elements

The Fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. The Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. And the Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

The four elements -- Fire, Earth, Air, and Water -- describe the inherent temperament and orientation of each sign of the zodiac. As the ancient Greeks taught, everything in the universe including the human personality can be examined in terms of these elements.

Fire and Earth are primary elements and have to do with the self. Conversely, Air and Water are derivative and therefore more focused on others. The elements of Fire and Air tend to be extroverted, active, and freedom-oriented, while Earth and Water are more introverted, passive, and security-oriented.

Aspects

When a planet in the sky makes a specific angle to another planet, that angle is called an “aspect.” Planets that are aspecting each other are influencing each other, changing each other’s energy. Some aspects are soft, meaning that the qualities of the two planets come together smoothly and harmoniously. Other aspects are hard, meaning that the qualities are at odds with one another and may create tension or conflict.

There are a handful of different types of aspects, but most astrologers focus on six major aspects: the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, quincunx, and opposition. You can learn what each of these means -- plus a few rarer aspects -- by reading below.

A note about Orbs: Planets don’t have to be at the EXACT degree for us to feel its effects. The number of degrees that two planets can travel apart while still being considered in aspect is called the “orb.” Different astrologers use different orbs, but the closer that two planets are to an exact aspect degree (the smaller the orb), the more noticeable the effects will be.

Conjunction 0 degrees

0 degrees

If two planets occupy the same degree or are very close to each other, they are said to be conjunct. Most astrologers believe that conjunctions are dynamic, but not as difficult and challenging as squares and oppositions. Planets that are conjunct tend to energize each other.

Sextile 60 degrees

60 degrees

If two planets are close to being 60 degrees apart, they are said to be sextile to each other. Sextiles are similar to trine aspects and considered favorable.

Squares 90 degrees

90 degrees

If two planets are close to being 90 degrees apart, they are said to be square to each other. Almost all astrologers agree that squares are motivating but can be difficult. Some astrologers emphasize the negative potential of a square, while others focus on the character-building potential inherent in this aspect.

Trine 120 degrees

120 degrees

If two planets are close being 120 degrees apart, they are said to be trine to each other. Most astrologers agree that trines are soft and easy, pleasant and harmonious, but sometimes lazy. However, trines can provide relief from the tension inherent in more challenging aspects that may also be present in a person’s chart.

Quincunx 150 degrees

150 degrees

If two planets are close to being 150 degrees apart, they form a quincunx aspect. Most astrologers view the quincunx as being awkward, bothersome, and requiring adjustments from a person.

Opposition 180 degrees

180 degrees

If two planets are close to being opposite to each other in the sky, they are forming an opposition aspect. Most astrologers agree that oppositions are difficult and often emphasize challenges with other people. However, the challenges suggested by an opposition can be balanced and resolved with effort.

Semi-Sextile aspect 30 degrees

30 degrees

If two planets are close to being 30 degrees apart, they form a semi-sextile aspect. This is generally regarded as being a slightly harmonious or favorable minor aspect.

Semi-Square aspect 45 degrees

45 degrees

If two planets are close to being 45 degrees apart, they are in semi-square aspect. This minor aspect is similar to a square aspect, though often not quite as intense. Some astrologers feel that the semi-square creates very internal challenges or conflicts.

Sesquiquadrate 135 degrees

135 degrees

If two planets are close to being 135 degrees apart, they are in sesquiquadrate aspect. Generally regarded as being similar to a square, but some astrologers feel that this minor aspect is easier to release and express than a square aspect.
