Your birth chart is basically a snapshot of the sky at the time and place you were born. The horizontal line in the middle represents the horizon, so all the planets above it were in the sky if you looked up at that moment, and all the ones below it were underneath your feet.
In Astrology, the sky is like a mirror that reflects what’s happening down here on earth. By taking a closer look at where all the planets are in your chart and how they relate to one another, you can gain deeper insight into who you are, and more importantly, where you’re going.

Your Sun, Moon, and Rising
Who are you, in a nutshell? Every person is much too complex to be fully summed-up by their Sun sign. Moon signs and Rising (aka Ascendant) signs are just as influential on your personality, if not moreso! With expert insight on these factors, along with the houses in which your Sun and Moon reside, this chapter of the Ultimate Personality Report is an exploration of your core self, your style of nurturing, and the areas of growth that call most loudly to you. See how these essential ingredients combine to make you one-of-a-kind!
Sun in Sagittarius
☉ ♐
You somehow always know where to turn to find the illusive parking space on parade day. Some call it luck, but it’s mostly a solid trust in your intuition and an unwavering faith in the universe. Remembering where you left your keys, however, is another story. You’re not one for the small details, but rather have an uncanny knack for the bigger picture. That’s what helps you sense your next best move. Of course, this confidence can lead you down some sketchy backroads, but that's just a part of the adventure. The dark doesn't scare you much, since your energy is inherently pretty sparkly. You bring your own light! You'll probably just make friends with any enemies lurking in the alley, anyway. Your contagious sense of humor can disarm even the baddest of baddies. If the situation is genuinely dangerous, your radar will know, and you’ll pull your signature U-turn to hightail it outta there in no time. Even on the rare occasion that things do go awry, your ability to find meaning in the struggle will make it all worthwhile. Remember that there is always something to be gained from sticking it out, even if it’s just a good story to tell later. Pivot when needed, but challenge your tendency to keep moving. Sometimes the best adventures happen when you stay.
Sun in the 1st House
☉ Ⅰ
Emerging is a living verb. You aren't the same person you were when you started reading this paragraph. Birthing yourself into existence isn't a one time occurrence -- it is a moment by moment process. Who are you now? And now? And now? You have the awareness to be present for your own evolution, every step of the way. As a result, you know exactly who you are at any given moment. There is no need to fixate on past versions, only a desire to be exactly as you are and express the current version of your authentic self however you can. With such a connection to every in-the-moment impulse, initiating action likely isn't too much of an issue for you! On the other hand, you could encounter some friction to your flow when it’s time to change direction mid-stream or consider the impact of your choices. Surround yourself with people who are as good at finishing things as you are at starting them. Take a beat to think through who might be affected by your next move. Once you've eliminated the possibility of collateral damage, you can get on with fanning your latest spark. Your genuine self-expression is inspiring to those who hide their own light. Let it shine!
Moon in Cancer
☽ ♋
Have you left the house lately? You’re a true homebody and might find yourself drawn inescapably to your coziest space. If you’re not spending time by yourself, you’re most likely with family or close friends. Others might find it difficult to crack your shell and break into your social circle, but it’s only because you need to feel safe with someone before you let them in. Trust is vital for your sense of well-being. You take your time to determine if you can be fully vulnerable with someone. Ultimately, though, trusting yourself is of prime importance. Without that faith in yourself, you might resort to codependent tendencies. Remember: no one’s intuition takes precedence over your own. You’re a sensitive being, highly attuned to the energies around you. This can make you a bit crabby at times since you’re feeling all the emotions in the room. No wonder you want to stay home! When you feel safe and secure, you’re a loyal, loving, and nurturing person who just wants to know that your efforts are reciprocated. If you’re out of sorts, you may want to redecorate your home, cook dinner for someone you love, or take a hot bath while your phone is set to silent. Let your home space be a reflection of your inner sanctuary, and when you’re ready, give people a chance. Odds are, they won’t bite!
Moon in the Eighth House
☽ Ⅷ
Ever feel like you know more about others than you know about yourself? Your emotional currents run deeper than most, and as a result, you’re keenly attuned to what lurks in the shadows of someone’s psyche. These are the places populated by subconscious fears and motivations. You can sense these elements within you too, whether you want to admit it or not. It's best to consciously let them see the light of day if you don’t want them coming out sideways through unconscious behavior. Luckily, you know how to bring compassion and care to what lies beneath the surface. As a result, people often feel safe spontaneously revealing their deepest, darkest secrets to you. Your gaze is piercing, intimidating even. One glance is enough to cut through someone’s masks and ego defenses to get to the good stuff. If you’re not facing your own demons, however, you could use these powers in manipulative ways. Consciously creating spaces to do deep shadow work will help you feel less vulnerable to the dangers of the unknown. One of the keys to doing this work in a way that is healing rather than traumatizing is gentleness. The deeper the terrain, the more tenderness is required. By all means continue spelunking the inner depths! Just remember to pack your first aid kit so you can tend the wounds that lay hidden at the bottom.
Ascendant in Scorpio
♏
Your eyes could cut through steel. Some may describe the quality of your gaze as penetrating. Others might even call it invasive. Either way, it’s intimidating. To be near you is to consent to your intense vibe. You like to cut through the crap. The deeper stuff is the most interesting, after all. It's only because you intimately understand your own shadow that you can zero in on what others aren't saying out loud. You see what others hope to hide. In fact, it might feel too close at times. Claustrophobic, even. You probably don't even need to be with another person to feel a pull to the depths. Give yourself a break from your own inner world. Remember to come up for air occasionally -- every scuba diver must refill their tank. The detective still needs to eat and sleep. Balance your relentless desires with some exercise and a walk outside -- otherwise, they can become obsessions. Spending too much time in your head can push you to assume the worst. Not every move is a power play, and not every motive is ulterior. It makes sense that you are a tad suspicious at first. Once you allow yourself to trust someone, though, your devotion runs soul deep.
Your Advanced Characteristics
Are you putting your best foot forward? Are you an open book, or are you inclined to stay hidden in the shadows? There's no end to what Astrology can teach you about yourself. In this chapter, you'll get to know the planet that rules your chart, along with some key aspects that affect how you show up in the world. Your IC (imum coeli, or "bottom of the sky), the point at the very base of your birth chart, also has its moment in the sun, illuminating the most deeply-rooted aspects of your path and personality! If your birth chart features any planets in the 1st House of Self, those planets will also get a little extra attention. These insights revolve around the version of you that exists underneath what other people see. Prepare to be amazed!
Pluto Chart Ruler
♏
Talk about a powerful presence! You are a highly capable and skilled person with a natural affinity for change. Others see you as a brooding, dark, and mysterious force, more intense than most. Paradoxically, it’s important for you to feel understood in this lifetime, to allow yourself to come out of the shadows, and yet your highest calling in this life requires you to traverse those very same shadows, to linger in the taboo, repressed lands that scare most people off. You are an alchemist of sorts, and whenever you go through loss, it will often lead you to bright, beautiful new beginnings. That is the power of death and rebirth, and it colors most chapters of your existence. Lean into this process. Surrender to the moments when you confront your struggles. You will find yourself drawn to the hidden aspects of life on your quest to understand things most others overlook. You are a skilled problem-solver with a deep and intuitive approach to life. Small talk and surface interactions don’t make sense to you. In relationships, in conversation, in your work, or even in your pastimes, you’d rather go deep and stay there.
Sun in Sagittarius, Moon in Cancer
Your bright personality might mask a sensitive core. You possess an essential optimism that can, on occasion, obscure your need to ride the waves of your emotional responses. Never mind what you choose to share with others -- blocking transparency even within your own psyche could lead to unresolved feelings and pent-up aggression. A positive outlook is a beacon to engage the full spectrum of the human experience, not avoid it. Just be mindful that you don't overshadow the softer and more tender parts of yourself. Take pains to attend to your pain. Slow down enough to nurture and care for the tenacious adventurer within.
IC in Pisces
♓
The waters of your ancestral stream surround you like a vast ocean. Like the proverbial fish who doesn't recognize that it's swimming through an entire sea, you likely absorbed generational imprints that you don't fully understand. Emotional boundaries may have been lacking in your childhood, so much so that you found yourself taking on baggage that wasn’t yours to hold. High levels of empathy may have developed as a result of an overly porous container. You have been tasked with differentiating yourself from your family of origin. At the very least, hand them back their own luggage. Although it may not seem like it, solid boundaries can actually facilitate a more open and loving environment than enmeshment ever could. As you individuate, you will find that you can be more present in their presence. It's necessary to separate in order to connect. It may seem like a paradox, but give it a try. You need not save anyone else. Focusing on your own self-actualization will alter the dynamic in mysterious ways. Through your personal process of growth, murky relationships will clear up and karma will begin to unravel. With the right boundaries, your inner tides will be safely contained.
Sun in the 1st House
☉ Ⅰ
Identity crisis might be a foreign concept. You know exactly who you are! Whether your self-expression flows like the drop of a waterfall or erupts like lava from a volcano, it’s a natural process that requires little by way of precognition or even reflection. No one wonders what you’re about. You may occasionally share an idea or project before it’s fully cooked, but even so, it will be a genuine expression of your current state. You're quite aware of your desires -- so aware, in fact, that there's little need for psychological excavation to discover hidden motivators. Your authentic nature shines brightly for all to see.
Mars in the 1st House
♂ Ⅰ
There's nothing like a good cause. You're a warrior at heart, and you thrive on standing up for what’s right. This side of you can take many forms. Most importantly, you’re ready to show up for yourself. Personal violations or perceived attacks will ignite your protective reflex like lightning. When not in defensive mode, though, your boundless energy can drive you to achieve your highest aspirations. Jumping in and going for it is probably way more comfortable for you than endless planning. You can always figure out details later (or at least muscle your way through). The point is to get moving and continue to fight for what matters.
North Node Sextile Sun
☉ ⚹ ☊
Charge forth into the unknown! You have a clear sense of self that fosters a kind of bravery and allows you to take risks. You possess the audacity to try out new ways of being without threatening your inner stability. In fact, your solid ego is exactly what enables you to take a chance on change. You understand the concept of a learning curve. You’re willing to suck at something long enough to become proficient. Knowing that failure doesn’t define your worth allows you to develop mastery when others might wallow in feeling inferior. Evolution requires courage, and you have it in spades.
Venus Sextile Ascendant
♀ ⚹
You make elegance look so easy! There’s a sense of peace about you, which helps other people feel relaxed and accepted in your presence. A sextile between your Ascendant and Venus indicates a core motivation to experience love and beauty in the world. It’s relatively easy for you to see the best in others. You set an example of joy, and even when your relationships don’t work out (it happens to the best of us), you’re generally able to find the silver lining and maintain hope that something better is waiting around the corner.
Mars Conjunct Ascendant
♂ ☌
Entering a party alone and leaving with all eyes on you must be pretty common. Others are naturally attracted to the way you carry yourself, and for good reason! You’re independent, strong, and know how to take action. You’re probably no stranger to hearing, “Wow, I could never do that!”. Your biography would most likely be filled with anecdotes that took guts and risk to create. The powerful magnetism you exude is both sexy and intimidating. The one crux here is to avoid getting too caught up in your ego. Being self-assured is one thing, but don’t let the looks go to your head!
Your Personality Expression
Raise your voice, babe! Three key planets -- Mercury, Venus, and Uranus -- rule over your approach to self-expression. Your communication style, your aesthetic preferences, the activities that allow you to express yourself most deeply ... all these things and more are waiting to be revealed. In this chapter of the Ultimate Personality Report, you'll learn the ways of speaking, writing, dressing, and creating that feel most aligned to your skills and desires. You don't have to be a square peg in a round hole any longer! Find the creative expression that's true to you, then let it flow.
Mercury in Capricorn
☿ ♑
Lighten up! Crack a smile! Okay, scratch that -- you’ve most likely received comments like these since birth and are a little over it by now. You may come off cold and unfeeling to others, but their discomfort with your stoic nature is none of your business. Your purpose in this life doesn’t have much to do with entertaining others, and although that might make a media-crazed society feel uneasy, it doesn’t mean you don’t care. You’re just more concerned with reaching your goals and getting to the point rather than joking or beating around the bush. This is a great trait to keep you focused and on track, but don’t forget to connect with the people closest to you. You’re the friend who tells it like it is, and people appreciate that, but it’s okay to add some soft padding to your harsh words once in a while. You might find that you are highly selective of where you spend your time, money, and energy, making you extra methodical, analytical, and downright careful in all that you do. While you’re busy building skyscrapers, make sure to give your brain a lunch break. If you can learn not to take everything so seriously and laugh about the hard stuff occasionally, your grounded nature will thrive.
Mercury in the 2nd House
☿ Ⅱ
Just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t there. You have a knack for understanding how things work. But in order to manifest your dreams, you must think outside the box. Your job is to not get too comfortable in your own cozy box of ideas and constructs. At the same time, knowing your core values is essential to building the life you desire. If you can't articulate what matters to you, you can't know when you are out of alignment. Being conscious of where you put your energy is part and parcel of manifesting with intention and integrity. You likely have a keen awareness of these things and think about them often. You might even find that you get a tad preoccupied with issues of money, resources, and basic physical survival needs. When making big decisions, it can be helpful to externalize your ideas by writing them down. Make a list of what you like and what you want to cultivate, then evaluate your choices based on how well they line up with that list. Construct a spreadsheet for your budget so you can minimize unnecessary obsessions about your financial security. Once you’re clear about what matters to you, your powers of manifestation are quite profound.
Mercury Direct
☿ 𝐃
While there are many other aspects in your chart that can inhibit your ability to express yourself, luckily for you, the planet of communication is moving full speed ahead. Unlike those with Mercury Retrograde, who are prone to trip over their words or might be unable to talk the talk, your thoughts roll off your tongue with greater ease. This doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a confident speaker or that your ideas make any sense for that matter -- you’ll have to see what else Mercury is up to in your chart to find that out. But with Mercury moving forward, you’ve got words and you know how to use them.
Venus in Aquarius
♀ ♒
Talk about unconventional! Have you ever followed the traditional rules of etiquette? Or respected a dress code? Probably not. And you know what? It’s kind of refreshing! It’s no surprise when people are drawn to your rebellious, independent, and effervescent style. You rarely find yourself thinking the same way that everyone else does, and your friends probably love how you can introduce them to a new perspective. You may find yourself attracted to artists, outcasts, and drifters, and you’re always eager to learn. You may seem aloof, distant, or unapproachable at times, but in reality, you just don’t care to sacrifice your vision in order to fit in. That’s a quality worth protecting.
Uranus in Capricorn
♅ ♑
Any renovations you make will have all the necessary permits in place. The blueprints will be precise and accurate. You're not one to shy away from change, but it has to be intentional and purposeful. Creative innovation is synonymous with viability. In fact, they likely emerge in concert. As you begin to see the feasibility of an idea, your excitement and enthusiasm increase. This means that even your most revolutionary ideas have staying power. It is likely that the very areas that light your creative genius involve tectonic shifts. Your orientation is towards structural integrity, so cracks in the foundation will really get your attention. A lot of your battles are of the uphill variety, and they’re not likely to be wrapped up overnight – you’re not satisfied by a simple surface makeover or shallow cosmetic improvements. Let your capacity for liberation evolve. Faster is not always better. As you are well aware, a shaky base will come crashing down at the first sign of upheaval. You may have learned this lesson from having your own world rocked to its core. It is a hard won insight that now has you favoring sustainable change over dramatic but short lived advancement.
Uranus in the 2nd House
♅ Ⅱ
When life is too stable, you may find that you get squirmy. Any expectation that you remain consistent can really frazzle you. There’s a kind of comfort in understanding change as the only constant. You can ride the waves of revision with aplomb. Of course, this can make life a bit of a roller coaster, but at least it won't be boring! You’re on a win big, lose everything, win big kind of cycle. As long as you can tolerate the ups and downs, you are well poised to take risks that would leave others in a puddle of destabilization. Your inner resources are facile and flexible, so you can easily adjust to unexpected shake ups. It’s a good thing, too, since you likely have experienced many changes to your comfort zone throughout your life. Being able to locate your own center amidst chaos is a superpower that actually fuels your creativity and ingenuity. It is in the rebalancing and rebuilding process that you really shine. Be mindful that you don't blow things up just so you can adapt. You can instigate changes that don't amount to shooting yourself in the foot on the regular. Ultimately, your genius emerges when you are required to summon your own stability.
Moon Opposite Uranus
☽ ☍ ♅
You are highly independent and crave a sense of freedom in all that you do. Prone to nervous tendencies and emotional outbursts, you could struggle to hold your emotions in proper perspective and balance, especially around things and people you care deeply about. You are insightful and highly attuned to what’s going on around you. Change is often your comfort zone, so don’t fear the unknown -- lean into your flexible and adaptable nature. Creatively, you have a habit of receiving flashes of genius. Find outlets for your brilliant work before you lose interest in the ideas!
Mercury Conjunct Uranus
☿ ☌ ♅
Your brilliant ideas appear right out of thin air. Some may even perceive you as psychic, since your intuitive antennae are highly attuned. Exciting, influential, and incredibly clever, your nature is truly one-of-a-kind. Your eccentric ways of thinking aren't always easy for others to follow, though. When Mercury is conjunct Uranus, your communication style can be a bit erratic and disruptive. If you’re not on the same page as someone else, it’s probably because you’ve already moved on to the next chapter. Slow down and wait for them to catch up.
Jupiter Opposite Uranus
♃ ☍ ♅
Sure, you’re warm, bubbly, and open-minded … but you’re still on a mission! In fact, once you win people over with your charms, you could struggle with taking your chosen cause a little too far. You are eccentric and comfortable with risk, making you a natural artist and creator, but there’s a level of tact to take into consideration when you’re experimenting with societal limitations. You do best when you are put into new and challenging situations, so traveling, learning, and growing are all in your best interest. Embracing your own adaptability and ingenuity will allow you to keep up with an ever-changing world.
Your Next Steps
Planets
The planets of our solar system -- including the Sun, Moon, and Pluto -- create a sort of map in the cosmos. When a person looks at their Astrology birth chart, they are looking at the exact locations of each planet at the moment of their birth -- in essence, a map of their life.
Each planet is connected to a deity, archetype, or idea that represents some part of our fundamental nature as humans. By understanding the meaning of each planet and the ways it can influence our lives, we have the opportunity to understand not only what drives us, but, ultimately, how far we can go.
The Sun Your Ego Structure
Your Ego Structure
The Sun is the center of our solar system. All life revolves around it. In the same way, the ego is the center of personal identity and gives integration and continuity to individual experience. In this sense, it might be said that the Sun in Astrology reveals a person’s character and is the prime indicator of what the individual is trying to achieve. This is the fixed pillar at the center of the person around which all else revolves.
The sign placement of the Sun indicates how your natural drive and ambition are going to be directed. The sign of the Sun is the most primary indicator of the forms of experience you are attracted to. The house placement of the Sun shows the primary area of expression for the individual in life. There is a psychological, emotional, and physical significance to the house placement of the Sun.
Aspects to the Sun show ways that the core of the personality is linked to other component elements in the individual’s life. Aspects to the Sun have a deep and overriding significance in the life of the individual and are generally more important and more prominent than other aspects in the chart.

Further, the Moon indicates how we respond to life as a result of our past habits and experiences, our heritage, and our individual and collective instincts.

While the Sun reveals your intended purposes and lessons for this present life cycle, the Moon represents what you have already done and developed, hence, what is instinctive and natural to you and what you tend to do over and over again.
Your childhood is also reflected in the Moon’s placement, because it’s through those childhood circumstances that any unresolved past-life issues are restimulated. Your subconscious predisposition is indicated by the Moon’s position as well. It is the psychic imprint of the past. The four elements -- Fire, Earth, Air, and Water -- describe the inherent temperament and orientation of each sign of the zodiac. As the ancient Greeks taught, everything in the universe including the human personality can be examined in terms of these elements.
Fire and Earth are primary elements and have to do with the self. Conversely, Air and Water are derivative and therefore more focused on others. When a planet in the sky makes a specific angle to another planet, that angle is called an “aspect.” Planets that are aspecting each other are influencing each other, changing each other’s energy. Some aspects are soft, meaning that the qualities of the two planets come together smoothly and harmoniously. Other aspects are hard, meaning that the qualities are at odds with one another and may create tension or conflict.
There are a handful of different types of aspects, but most astrologers focus on six major aspects: the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, quincunx, and opposition. You can learn what each of these means -- plus a few rarer aspects -- by reading below.
A note about Orbs: Planets don’t have to be at the EXACT degree for us to feel its effects. The number of degrees that two planets can travel apart while still being considered in aspect is called the “orb.” Different astrologers use different orbs, but the closer that two planets are to an exact aspect degree (the smaller the orb), the more noticeable the effects will be.
Conjunction 0 degrees
0 degrees
If two planets occupy the same degree or are very close to each other, they are said to be conjunct. Most astrologers believe that conjunctions are dynamic, but not as difficult and challenging as squares and oppositions. Planets that are conjunct tend to energize each other.
Sextile 60 degrees
60 degrees
If two planets are close to being 60 degrees apart, they are said to be sextile to each other. Sextiles are similar to trine aspects and considered favorable.
Squares 90 degrees
90 degrees
If two planets are close to being 90 degrees apart, they are said to be square to each other. Almost all astrologers agree that squares are motivating but can be difficult. Some astrologers emphasize the negative potential of a square, while others focus on the character-building potential inherent in this aspect.
Trine 120 degrees
120 degrees
If two planets are close being 120 degrees apart, they are said to be trine to each other. Most astrologers agree that trines are soft and easy, pleasant and harmonious, but sometimes lazy. However, trines can provide relief from the tension inherent in more challenging aspects that may also be present in a person’s chart.
Quincunx 150 degrees
150 degrees
If two planets are close to being 150 degrees apart, they form a quincunx aspect. Most astrologers view the quincunx as being awkward, bothersome, and requiring adjustments from a person.
Opposition 180 degrees
180 degrees
If two planets are close to being opposite to each other in the sky, they are forming an opposition aspect. Most astrologers agree that oppositions are difficult and often emphasize challenges with other people. However, the challenges suggested by an opposition can be balanced and resolved with effort.
Semi-Sextile aspect 30 degrees
30 degrees
If two planets are close to being 30 degrees apart, they form a semi-sextile aspect. This is generally regarded as being a slightly harmonious or favorable minor aspect.
Semi-Square aspect 45 degrees
45 degrees
If two planets are close to being 45 degrees apart, they are in semi-square aspect. This minor aspect is similar to a square aspect, though often not quite as intense. Some astrologers feel that the semi-square creates very internal challenges or conflicts.
Sesquiquadrate 135 degrees
135 degrees
If two planets are close to being 135 degrees apart, they are in sesquiquadrate aspect. Generally regarded as being similar to a square, but some astrologers feel that this minor aspect is easier to release and express than a square aspect.
