The month gets off to a rousing start on December 1 when sociable Venus enters outgoing Sagittarius. This optimistic combination encourages open minds, open hearts and a spirit of generosity. It's easier to give to others as interests move beyond our limited personal likes and dislikes, encompassing a wider range of tastes. Appreciation for different kinds of people, objects and experiences should open new social channels and make for a more inviting holiday season.
The beginning of the month is also charged up by a Full Moon late on December 1 in the Pacific Time Zone and early on December 2 for the rest of North America. This opposition of the Sun in farseeing Sagittarius and the Moon in shortsighted Gemini can over-stimulate nervous systems and flood us with excess information. Happily, energetic Mars in Leo forms harmonious aspects to the Full Moon that will find creative uses for this big flow of ideas. One final dose of weirdness to launch December comes on the month's opening day as unconventional Uranus turns direct. The forward shift of this electrifying planet stirs up restlessness, increases urges for independence and provokes inventive behavior.
Mental pressures and communication issues may arise when chatty Mercury moves into orderly Capricorn on December 5 only to crash into a conjunction with pressurized Pluto and a square with stern Saturn. Stick to facts, double-check data and handle confidential information carefully to avoid complications.
The jittery mood that started the month is unlikely to abate with an explosive New Moon on December 16. This union of the Sun and Moon in Sagittarius brings shocks and surprises with its tense 90-degree square to Uranus. While this can trigger impulsive behavior and rebellion against authority, it's also a signal to break with the past and explore fresh avenues for self-expression. Fortunately, compassionate and imaginative Neptune makes a supportive 120-degree trine to this Sun-Moon conjunction, which can smooth out some of the rough edges. It's about relaxing and believing in the big picture when the current situation feels chaotic. Wild ideas are likely to be spurred by this New Moon, but be prepared to toss out most of them before finding one that works.
Social lives grow spicy as pleasure-seeking Venus aligns with passionate Mars on December 17, experimental Uranus on December 19 and generous Jupiter and Neptune on December 20 and 21. However, it's wise to be careful in pursuing a good time since Mars turns retrograde on December 20 where its arrows are not so easily aimed. Mercury also turns retrograde on December 26, making us feel like we're moving backwards at the end of the year. These patterns, though, are reminders to review and recalibrate before forging ahead in significant areas.
The Sun's entry into Capricorn on December 21 is the Winter Solstice. The Sun's subsequent conjunction to Pluto on December 24 and square to Saturn on December 25 could produce frustration and power struggles. However, these tense aspects occur while Jupiter joins Neptune (on December 21), enveloping difficult times with an atmosphere of faith and hope that belies current circumstances. Ideally, dreams spawned by this Jupiter-Neptune union can eventually be turned into reality with Saturn's discipline and Pluto's persistence.
