The big news this month is that Mars, the action planet, finally shifts into forward gear on March 10 after turning retrograde last December. If you've been spinning your wheels or, worse, going backwards, it should be easier to gain traction and begin advancing your interests as Mars picks up speed in the weeks to come.
Before we reach this transitional point, though, we've still got plenty of fuzziness in the air. Mental Mercury, for example, enters soft and spacey Pisces on March 1. This is ideal for opening our minds to imaginative ideas that are difficult to find when our thinking is too narrow. Words are rich with emotions that add subtle nuance and meaning to our messages. The challenge of Mercury in this Water sign is that our brains are touched by images and feelings that aren't easy to put into words. Conversations can be cloudy when impressions replace facts. Take what you hear as a rough approximation of reality, since it's more likely to be a description of someone's feelings than an objective piece of information. This time is great for dreamers and poets, artists and entrepreneurs looking for inspiration, although it could be tricky for doing your taxes.
Relationships get more stimulation when romantic Venus joins electric Uranus on March 3 to spur a taste for new and different experiences. This could shake up an ongoing partnership, yet the point is to overcome stale and predictable patterns that have taken the life out of love to bring it back to a higher level of excitement. Exploring different looks, attitudes and experiences are other ways to ride this rockin' wave of emotional discovery. Venus then moves into independent Aries on March 7, reinforcing the need for novelty. Singles seeking sweeties should come on stronger and take more chances, since it's better to lose a prospect by trying too hard than to be too shy to get into the game. Venus opposes stern Saturn on March 9 and forms a tense 90-degree square with controlling Pluto on March 11, which can produce power struggles. For those willing to dig more deeply, though, these aspects indicate clear thinking and a commitment to significant change.
On March 15 the New Moon in Pisces is excited by conjunctions with Mercury and Uranus. Brilliant ideas and sudden changes of heart and mind can be spurred by this event. Nervousness may be common, so remember to slow down and take some deep breaths before saying or doing something impulsively.
A significant energy boost occurs with the change of seasons as the Sun enters Aries on March 20. This first day of spring (or fall in the Southern Hemisphere) kicks off a new astrological year. Yet this sign's need for freedom may be thwarted with hard aspects to restrictive Saturn on March 21 and square to Pluto on March 25. If you're edgy and mistrusting, seek ways to take more control of your life instead of battling against someone else.
