Movie Pickups by Sign: How to spot and seduce your favorite sign at the cinema

How to spot and seduce your favorite sign at the cinema

by Kim Rogers-Gallagher

Who we are is beautifully reflected by what we consider entertainment. If you're trying to meet someone, forget the personals. Why not try the movies? The easiest way to get a conversation going is to ask someone if they've seen a particular film. Even if they haven't, you're off and running with all kinds of valuable information. Take a peek below to identify the movies your favorite sign will be watching. After you spot them, casually catch up with them afterwards and ask them what they thought of it.

Aries (March 21 - April 19)
If you've determined that only an Aries will do, keep this one factoid in mind: Their patron planet is Mars, the ancient God of War. If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about their choice of entertainment, let's put it another way. If you find them viewing a chick-flick, forget about hitting on them. They're attached to the person sitting next to them -- the one with a smug look on their face that says they obviously won a bet. The Aries will have a miserable look on their face and be staring at their shoes -- or anything other than the screen. You'll find a single Aries at an action-flick that features a whole lot of car chases, shootouts, blood, gore and guts and probably Bruce Willis.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Okay, so they tend toward epic films that may be a bit longer than what you'd personally care to sit through -- by an hour or more. Think of it this way, while you're waiting for the film to end, you'll have plenty of time to check them out, make sure they're not "with" anyone and to make your plan to "accidentally" bump into them on the way out. Just don't include spilling anything on them as a part of your plan. Once you've made contact and started a conversation, you'll find that their mind is deep and sensual, as is their libido. They'll carry themselves with a calm assurance that tells you they own any space they inhabit. They have excellent, discriminating taste, too, by the way, so look for designer clothes.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Here's the tough part: There's not much that doesn't amuse a Gemini, as long as it's their first time seeing it. So while you may ordinarily find them at a comedy or a film that stars someone they consider amazingly funny -- say, Sandra Bullock, Eddie Murphy, Billy Crystal, etc. -- they also love movies with multi-star casts. The only way for you to be sure you've found your Gemini is to wait until after the film and listen to what they're saying. Of course, if you're brave, you can sit behind them, but these folks do tend to be quite chatty, so while you may not hear much of the dialogue in the film itself, you'll hear their laughter and comments just fine.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Terms of Endearment. Fried Green Tomatoes. Yep, you guessed it. Technically, it's chick-flicks all the way, and they'll likely be with a whole gaggle of friends, passing a tiny package of tissues back and forth. Once the lights go up, they'll take a moment or two to finish dabbing their eyes and gathering themselves. Once they feel brave enough to leave, it's time to make your move, but do be delicate, because their tender hearts are still breaking for the wounded -- or God forbid, deceased -- character(s) they now consider friends. Of course, bringing a few tissues of your own and offering one wouldn't be a bad way to break the ice. That, and a cup of decaf cappuccino at the bistro around the corner.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)
This is the easiest sign of all to spot, even in the darkness of a theater. Leos have a strong love of drama -- even melodrama. It extends from their lives into their choice of entertainment, so you won't find them at anything with subtitles, too much history to keep track of, or convoluted plots that have to be followed second by second to keep up on. That won't do. They're firey (as you no doubt know and love), are easily bored and a spotlight follows them wherever they go. Separating them from their entourage won't be easy, but it is possible. Sit in the back row of the theater and watch for the most animated, attractive and popular member of a group. Be dressed appropriately and carry yourself like royalty, because that's what they're attracted to.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Think about the kind of movie someone with a terrific brain would enjoy -- the kind of brain that's the property of someone who's easily bored by anything that's not a challenge. That's where you'll find your Virgo. If there are subtitles, lots of intricate clues or the film is an epic with a couple of dozen main characters to keep track of via several plots and subplots, you're definitely in the right place. Now, find the person who's sitting there ultra-quietly, oblivious to anything but the screen itself (without company, because that might be a distraction), obviously watching every detail. If that's the type of cerebral partner you're after, walk them out and ask for their opinion on the film -- not whether or not they liked it, but what they thought the writers were trying to say. Unusually intelligent conversation is what they're after -- nothing less.
